Port of Gothenburg – Sweden
Long-term Measurements and Reductions of VOC-Emissions at the Port of Gothenburg.
Mission
FluxSense has measured alkane emissions on a regular basis at the Energy Port of Gothenburg since 2003 using the SOF-tehnique. Consistent and repeated measurements have been done on multiple days during each season to be able to study long-term yearly trends of the emissions. Sub-area measurements and leak search have also been performed in order to identify any hotspots or leaks. The Port of Gothenburg is the largest port in Scandinavia and handles around 22 million metric tonnes of energy-products (mainly oil) each year. Several oil and gas companies are active within the Energy Port with various storage-and loading/un-loading facilites.
Result
The linear trend in the measured yearly emissions show a decrease of 70 metric tonnes per year (see plot below) over the time period (2003-2019)which is not accompanied by a reduction of the throughput. This encouraging downward trend is a result of recurring measurements, constructive follow-up meetings and appropriate actions to remedy identified emission hot-spots.
